Egypt is one of the best family destinations in the world — and one of the most misunderstood. Parents worry about heat, food, safety and long days. In practice, a well-planned Egypt family trip is easier than most European cities with toddlers, because Egypt adores children. Hotel staff dote on them, restaurant kitchens adapt, guides love a family audience. This guide covers the best kid-friendly hotels, kids clubs and family activities we know from eleven years of running family tours in Egypt.

Why Egypt works for families

  • Egyptian culture adores children. Every waiter, guide and taxi driver will smile at your child. Hotels and restaurants are used to families.
  • Short travel times between big-ticket sites. The Pyramids are 30 minutes from central Cairo. Luxor temples are within 15 minutes of each other.
  • Low-cost luxury. Five-star family suites cost 40–60% less than equivalent European hotels.
  • Real adventure. Camels, feluccas, hot air balloons, snorkelling and desert jeep rides — Egypt is a place children remember for life.
  • Great winter weather. October to April is 20–28°C in Cairo and Luxor — perfect for sightseeing with children.

Best kid-friendly hotels in Cairo and Giza

  • Marriott Mena House, Giza. The Pyramids are literally outside the window. Gardens, two pools, kids welcome everywhere. Our top pick for a first Egypt trip with children.
  • Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza. The best kids club in the city, family suites, four pools, and a Nile-side location. Small children (2–12) are treated like VIP guests.
  • Hilton Pyramids Golf Resort. Large pool, mini-golf, tennis courts, kids activities on weekends. Best value for a family of 4.
  • Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah. Central location, family-friendly, excellent breakfast, Nile views from most rooms.
  • Steigenberger Pyramids Cairo. Newer property close to the plateau with a large pool, ideal if you plan to shoot the Pyramids at sunrise with the family.

Family hotels in Luxor and Aswan

  • Pavillon Winter Luxor. Colonial-era gardens, large pool, breakfasts that suit children, five minutes from Luxor Temple.
  • Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor. Historic and grand — think Agatha Christie — with generous family suites and a pool that children love.
  • Old Cataract Aswan. Legendary hotel with a children's pool, family suites and a terrace over the Nile.
  • Mövenpick Aswan. Island setting, sandy edges for children, family-friendly restaurants. Easiest base for a Nile cruise with kids.

Red Sea family resorts

If you want a week of easy, no-sightseeing beach time before or after the Cairo/Luxor portion, the Red Sea is unbeatable for families. Our top three:

  • Rixos Sharm el-Sheikh. Ultra all-inclusive, one of the largest kids clubs in the region (ages 4–12), seven pools, aqua park, family suites.
  • Jaz Aquaviva, Hurghada. Aqua park with slides for all ages, kids clubs, extensive all-inclusive, superb value.
  • Sunrise Arabian Beach Resort, Sharm. Two kids clubs (toddlers + juniors), multiple pools, direct reef access for snorkelling with older kids.

Kids clubs and daily activities

Most five-star Egyptian hotels run free daily kids clubs during school holidays and high season. Typical offerings:

  • Arts, crafts, treasure hunts and mini discos.
  • Pool games, supervised swimming and small aqua parks.
  • Egyptian cooking classes (kids love making koshari).
  • Age-appropriate pyramid walks and museum tours — some hotels partner with Egyptologists for children.

If your child is old enough (7+), the private Pyramids photoshoot is a fantastic family memory — the whole shoot is done in 3–5 hours and can be adapted for children's attention spans.

Practical tips for travelling Egypt with children

  • Timing: October to April. Start mornings at 8am and finish by noon. Siesta, then one afternoon activity.
  • Water: bottled only. Brush teeth with bottled water for the first days.
  • Food: every family hotel has a children's menu. Street food (falafel, koshari) is fine at busy, clean shops.
  • Sun: hat, sunscreen, electrolytes. Dehydration is the most common travel problem in Egypt.
  • Transport: private van with car seats on request. Our family tours include them by default.
  • Medical: Cairo has excellent English-speaking paediatricians. Pharmacies are everywhere.
